Frequently Asked Questions
Quiet Confidence Coaching offers independence coaching for adults with neurodiversity, to build executive functioning and resilience for life’s transitions, career, college, and more.
In person sessions available in San Diego, CA, Phoenix, AZ and virtually nationwide.
What is the difference between independence coaching (ICAN) and therapy?
Therapy (with a licensed mental health professional) focuses on processing past experiences, mental health, and emotional regulation. Independence coaching is forward-facing and practical — focused on building skills and reaching real-world goals. Many clients benefit from both simultaneously.
Does my adult child need to want coaching for it to work?
Readiness matters. We always recommend that the individual themselves be part of the decision to begin coaching. That said, many clients who initially resist the idea become genuinely motivated once they experience a session that respects their autonomy. We recommend starting with the free consult to gauge fit.
Do you work with clients who have a PDA profile?
Yes. Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) requires a different approach than standard autism coaching — one that prioritizes low demand, collaborative goal-setting, and genuine autonomy. Adam is experienced in supporting clients with a PDA profile in a way that does not trigger avoidance.
Do you accept government funding and benefits for payment?
Quiet Confidence Coaching proudly accepts Self-Determination government funding for eligible California clients through the Regional Center. If you or your loved one is connected to a Regional Center in San Diego or elsewhere in California, independence coaching may be covered through your Self-Determination budget. We can help you navigate this process.
Can coaching happen in the community, not just in an office?
Absolutely. Real-world independence is built in real-world environments. Sessions can take place at a coffee shop, on public transit, at a grocery store, or anywhere that supports the client's actual goals.
